The technique of adding gold decoration with an agate tip is certainly one of the most sophisticated. First of all, the porcelain has to be covered with a solution containing 90% liquid metal. The gold is brushed on in a fine layer. Once completely dry, a second layer of metal is added, to produce an even surface. The piece is then fired. After cooling, the gold is reworked with an agate tip, which adds a burnished, brilliant effect to various parts of the opaque metal surface, creating the chiaroscuro effects that add life to the design. |
